Just Giving You My Two Puggy Pennies Worth (Or Cents)

Hand me a Quarantini!!!

Adventures await….but they will have to wait for a little while longer!!

Our adventures have been put on hold as we are stay at home during the Covid-19 Lockdowns.
It’s been rather a change to my social calendar to not be travelling, meeting my pug friends and attending the events I am so very used to enjoying.

We have been using some of the time at home, to connect with people in different ways, and as with many, catch ups, celebrations and yappy hours are happening via Zoom or other VC platforms.  I have become quite good at sitting on the laptop, pressing the relevant keys and I have a dedicated cushion, and my own camera for my calls, so I am all set!!

Social media, often frowned upon for the amount of time it sucks from our hoomans, in this present time, has been the saviour to tackle the isolation many feel from not being able to socialise as we would normally.

It's not been easy missing out on seeing our friends and the abundance of hugs and cuddles I get from people on my adventures.  With everyone wearing masks, it feels a very different place right now.

But, I do admit, that time does seem to be passing rather quickly and I am having fun in many different ways, and it has been fun to connect with people we have not for a little while.

I have been taking part in quite a few of the Instagram challenges.

I liked the #pillowchallenge as I think I looked rather good in a pillow and a belt.

I raided my closet and found many an outfit combination that Iris Apfel would approve of in her #irisyourcloset challenge.

I have delivered essential supplies to HRH Queen of England for her 94th Birthday.  I am unable to do any of the other toilet roll challenges knocking around as we gave them all to Queenie!!

I had fun with my besties at our little Pugchella, which turned into Couchella.  We listened to the Woof Fighters and rocked our flower crowns.

Every year, LA Pug Meet Up, puts on a Pugchella for us all and it is one of the highlights of the year.  Everypug really goes out and rocks their outfits, so it was a real blow when back in March, the event planned for April was cancelled.  Back then (possibly naively), we thought we would still be pawtying together.

So, my Besties and I decided we would have our own little Zoom gathering....just another excuse to mix up a Qurantini!  These have been very popular in many households we Zoom into!

I also took part with some of my friends, in a giant fundraiser Yappy Hour which was part of a 24hr telethon to raise money for small pet businesses and rescues - Streamathon Pet Business.

My friend Olive Co-Host of The Weekly Runt  put this together for the Streamathon.  You can watch the entire program here.

My section starts at 22.45 minutes into the show.

It felt good to be part of something, and work as a team, as did joining in and presenting a segment at my friend Dotty's virtual Birthday Bash.  It was so good to celebrate with her and see all our friends participate.  There are many places that both Dotty and I have been, but at separate times, so I did a little version of 'who wore it best' but with our photos of us at these places.  Fun memories!

I have been helping with a fair amount of baking….but most of it seems to be indelible for me!!!

Just as well as my off-leash play is non-existent outside of the house, and I am a bit worried my neck floof and tummy rolls are a little more prominent than they were!! Neighbourhood walks have been my main source of exercise, and I have enjoyed bike rides around too on my buddy rider, but I am missing the beach and the beach bike path as both of those are closed for now.

I am looking forward to when those restrictions loosen and can play safely again.

Until then, I will stay home and stay safe!

“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” Showcasing fabulous designers and adoptable pugs at the Pug Nation LA Fashion Show!

30 minutes later we pulled up outside our mini-getaway hotel where we expected to chill out and be poolside babes for the next few days. We all kind of looked at each other as it wasn’t quite as we imagined. There were a few questionable sights in the hotel lobby which made the hair on the back of our necks stand up. Upon entering our garden room I felt like it resembled a breeze block cell with a concrete yard - not quite the chilled out palm tree vibes we envisaged. The chair by the rusty desk looked as if it had come from the local primary school, complete with paint splashes and tippex drops. Mum said it was ‘the look’. Aunt S said ‘that’s not a look!!’ Off to speak to the manager we did, who was extremely nice and understood that our expectations were a little different to reality, so he kindly cancelled our reservation. I am sure we would have had a good time. It just seemed to be very busy and having not been anywhere busy for over a year, it wasn’t the vibe we were looking for. So off we trotted to a vision of pink 30 mins up the road... The Sands Hotel and Spa in Indian Wells.

Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, 5 little pugs gathered together for a funfilled day. One was dressed in red, one was dressed in pink. One was dashing in a tux with a silver cufflink. One was laden in lace And one arrived in a car at quite a pace!!

My besties and I decided we needed a really good chill out session after our hectic festive season...so we pawed around and found a fantastic modern, dog friendly Airbnb in Downtown Palm Springs, where we really could live out the Pug Life.

So, during the 160 miles along the 10 and the 60 freeways to the Joshua Tree National Park , I nap for 40 minutes, have a tinkle, a tickle and a pugachino at Starbucks, gawp at the Iron Giants (ie:the solar windmills) and marvel at how far your buck goes on a brand spanking new mansion on this stretch of the road compared to TinsleTown. Maybe I'll move out here so I have more pennies in my puggy bank, and I'll be much closer to these weirdly wonderful shaped trees I like to look at.

In October, 2019, we loaded up my trusty carriage and drove off up the 5 freeway to Redding which was our first quick overnight stop to get us from LA to the Oregon Coast where we would be spending 4 nights by the beach, before driving slowly down the 1 back to LA. I have been along the Oregon Coast before, back in 2017 when we drove up to Portland and watched the solar eclipse with my friends who did live there, but have now moved to Colorado (I feel another road trip coming on!). I loved the ruggedness of the shorelines there and we all said we would love to come back...so true to our word, that is what we did! On a little bit of a time and budget restraint this trip, we opted to have two pretty much full days of driving, to allow us to stay a while and appreciate the beauty of the Oregon beach town Bandon which is where we had opted to base ourselves. We chose Bandon as we had been before, liked it and wasn’t as far as other very likeable beach towns like Cannon Beach.
